Toxin Name U7-ctenitoxin-Pk1a
Source Species Phoneutria  keyserlingi (Brazilian wandering spider)
Toxin Group Ctenitoxin
Description Toxin with unknown molecular target. Unpublished results suggest that the toxin causes immediate spastic paralysis and death in mice within 1 min of injection at dose levels of 1.5 ug per mouse. The primary toxin sequence has strong homology to U2-ctenitoxin-Pn1b from the related ctenid spider Phoneutria nigriventer, suggesting that the toxin is insecticidal and active in vertebrates.
