Toxin Name κ-theraphotoxin-Ec2c
Source Species Eucratoscelus  constrictus
Toxin Group Theraphotoxin
Description A non-phyla-specific neurotoxin with an inhibitory cystine knot fold. This neurotoxin potently blocks BKCa channels in cockroach dorsal unpaired median (DUM) neurons with an IC50 of 25 nM. This occurs in the absence of any shifts in the voltage dependence of activation. At concentrations up to 330 nM it lacks any actions on transient 'A-type' Kv, delayed-rectifier Kv, Nav, and both HVA and M-LVA Cav channels in cockroach DUM neurons. This toxin differs from the related toxins κ-TRTX-Ec2a and κ-TRTX-Ec2b in that it is toxic to mice by introcerebroventicular injection and is therefore not phyla-selective.
