Toxin Name CRISP-1-Phoneutria keyserlingi
Source Species Phoneutria  keyserlingi (Brazilian wandering spider)
Toxin Group Ctenitoxin
Description Partial sequence of a venom allergen, similar to that found in hymenopterans. Belongs to the CAP protein family that includes CRISP proteins, antigen 5, and pathogenesis-related (PR-1) proteins. Has been convergently recruited into the venom of a variety of animals, including cepahalopods, cone snails, scorpions, reptiles and ticks, as well as the saliva of hematophagous insects. CAP domain proteins are the dominant allergy-inducing toxins in hymenopteran venoms. Its function in spider venoms remains to be determined. A similar protein has been found in the venom of Lycosa singoriensis.
